Soapstone Carving

Soapstone Carving

In Soapstone Carving Classes, the students complete 2 projects in the year.

The first project is a bear, and the second is a giraffe. It takes 10 - 1 1/2 hour classes to complete each one. After doing the first two projects, they chose from various pieces they would like to carve.

They are provided with a rough cut to simplify the process.

**The soapstone is imported from Brazil and is of the best quality.**

In the sculpting/carving, we follow an age old traditional methodology.

This process is comprised of four major steps which are:

  • Cutting, carving and shaping
  • Smoothing
  • Wet sanding
  • rub, buff and polish.

The supply fee for soapstone includes two pieces of stone.

To see if your child would be interested in soapstone carving classes we also offer a FREE  introductory class.

Your child would attend an existing class and carve from a small inukshuk shape. This class will take 1 1/2 of class time. There would be NO CHARGE for this one class, except for $10 for the piece of soapstone.

Classes for students ages 8-18.
